About The Toronto AI Review

The Toronto AI Review is a student-led journal published by UofT AI at the University of Toronto. We spotlight the work of researchers, engineers, and founders shaping the future of artificial intelligence and offer a space for dialogue on the ethical, technical, and societal dimensions of AI.

Our mission is to bridge academia, industry, and the broader community by sharing fresh perspectives on how AI can be built and applied with purpose.

Our Team

Zuhal Olomi

Zuhal Olomi is a third-year Cognitive Neuroscience specialist student with a growing interest in Mathematics and Computer Science. She is particularly interested in how machine learning can be applied to medicine and surgery. Outside of her studies, she loves spending time with friends, going on long walks, and enjoying coffee and ice cream.

Sundus Abdi

Fourth-year student at the University of Toronto studying Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. Researcher at the Canadian Quantum Research Center.

Richard Zhang

My article tackles how at the very core of every “good” AI system and algorithm is data. It breaks down what makes AI “good” in the context of data, and compares two significant data types—public and private—to find where each succeeds and misses. It dives into what happens when either type is mishandled, and explains why the best scenario is a mix of both: so AI can be powerful in practice and ethically responsible. Finally, the article also gives readers a clear lens for judging AI training data, such as what to trust, what to question, and how to balance privacy, performance, and real-world impact.

Karan Singh

I'm a Computer Science student at New York University, diving deep into the world of AI. Whether I'm experimenting with language models, building my own tools, or exploring different applications of AI, I'm constantly learning and creating. When I'm not working, you'll find me on the football pitch, watching Arsenal games, or attempting to recreate that recipe I saw online (with varying degrees of success).

Hana Greenberg

Hana is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto studying Political Science, Applied Data Science, and Creative Writing. As the Head of Publishing, her passions lie in the intersections of technology, equity, and creativity. Specifically, her research interests include AI ethics, dismantling embedded biases in Large Language Models, and creating regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies.

Batool M. AlMousawi

Batool M. AlMousawi is a Master’s student at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation, specializing in Artificial Intelligence in Health Systems Research. Her work focuses on co-developing human-centered AI artifacts that promote health equity in urban environments. Batool is passionate about designing responsible health innovations that improve healthcare, and centers her work on individuals at the intersections of systems of oppression.

Amitav Johri

Financial Economics student with a passion for applied machine learning, quantitative research, and real-world impact at the intersection of AI and finance.

Adam Raway

Hi everyone! My name's Adam, I'm in 3rd year CS spec and Business minor. I'm really interested in how AI plays a role in CSed and robotics. In my free time, I like to read a bunch of sci-fi, watch F1, and go rock climbing with my friends. Excited to meet y'all!
